In the presence of TU Vice Presidents and representatives of a number of government bodies and participating societies, TU organized the third forum for volunteering, featuring a dialogue session entitled "Voluntary Work in Light of Saudi Vision 2030." The event was in conjunction with the International Volunteer Day, celebrated on the fifth of December every year.

TU also organized an exhibition of volunteer teams, with the participation of the Directorate of Civil Defense and the Prison Administration in Taif, and launched the "Let’s Warm Them Up" and "Make It Green" initiatives.

The "Let’s Warm Them Up" initiative is aimed to distribute winter clothing to 205 needy people to protect them from the severe cold, while the "Make It Green" initiative is aimed to highlight environmental problems, including desertification.

The first phase of the "Make It Green" initiative, meant to increase environmental awareness in the Taif community, featured the planting of about 250 seedlings in both male and female sections of campus. A number of university employees took part in the event in the presence of a delegation from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

Some of the trees planted were named after influential leaders at TU, including the first TU President, the late Prof. Abdul Ilah Banajah, may God have mercy on him.

The second phase of the campaign will be completed by planting 150 fruit trees, in addition to multiple types of flowers and roses that have no adverse effects on the environment or health.

TU seeks to contribute to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by raising the number of male and female volunteers to one million by 2030.

In this regard, TU launched "The Volunteer Work Platform" to fulfill its responsibility in promoting the culture of volunteering in society as well as to inform volunteers of their rights, responsibilities, obligations and ethics of volunteering.

The Volunteer Unit at the Deanship of Community Service and Sustainable Development oversees volunteer initiatives and works, which include such areas as health, professional and environmental volunteering.

It should be noted that the theme of the International Volunteer Day for 2019 is "Volunteering for an Inclusive Future", which highlights the challenges every citizen faces in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for sustainable development in the world, to be a part of it, and to activate the sustainable development agenda by making communities and governments dynamic through taking part in volunteer work.
