TU President: We are keen on establishing international partnerships and the transfer of successful experiences

TU President Dr. Husam Zaman stressed the University's keenness to establish partnerships with international universities with scientific and academic success to benefit from their experience in effecting transformation initiated by Taif University to keep abreast of Saudi Vision 2030 and National Transformation Program. In a meeting with a team from George Washington University, Dr. Zaman stressed the University's keenness to apply the best methods to develop the teaching process in higher education, enrich university life, exchange experiences, develop academic programs, and offer them in partnership with other universities.

During the meeting, TU President reviewed the implementation of the consulting services provided by George Washington University, the future of cooperation between the two universities, and the workshops and training courses offered to the university staff. The meeting was attended by Dr. Huda Ayas, the Associate Dean for International Medicine at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at George Washington University, and Prof. Stanley Knoll, who are visiting TU to follow up on the implementation of the advisory services offered to TU medical and health colleges. Such services provide consultations on academic accreditation, professional development of faculty members, assessment and review of curricula, transfer of knowledge and exchange of experiences.

Advisory services include a number of topics, including the development and evaluation of the academic program, student evaluation, evaluation and assessment management, teaching strategies and methods of learning in medicine, ways to develop academic skills, methods of providing feedback to students, the use of technology in curriculum design and development and management of learning resources.

The delegation of George Washington University also held a number of meetings on the sidelines of the visit with Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Asmari, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Development, Dr. Iman Al-Zahrani, Vice President for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Haifa Al-Nefayie, Dean of International Cooperation, Dr. Awadh Al-Juaid, Dean of Academic Development, and deans and vice deans of the colleges of medicine and health. The meetings discussed ways to develop and increase the absorptive capacity of clinical and practical training for students of health and medical colleges, cooperation in research and development and academic accreditation, and ways to develop faculty members in line with Saudi Vision of 2030 and accreditation requirements.

A team of faculty members at George Washington University, including thoracic surgery consultant Professor Keith Mortman, Professor Wafa Harrook, and Dr. Samar Nasser offered several workshops targeting all faculty members in the colleges of medicine, pharmacy, and applied medical sciences at Taif University. The topics of the workshops included the use of virtual reality in medical and health education, competency-based education, and methods of providing feedback to students, trainees, and faculty members, ensuring the quality of educational outputs and qualifying students for the labor market.
