On Tuesday, TU President Dr. Husam bin Abdulwahhab Zaman inaugurated nine technical projects carried out by the Deanship of e-Learning and Information Technology at the University at the beginning of the current year 2019, as part of the Digital Transformation 2 Project. TU President confirmed that launching Phase 2 of the digital transformation projects at the University is aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 in the development of digital infrastructure.

Dr. Zaman pointed out that Taif University seeks to activate the Vision’s orientations based on supporting the digital transformation of government bodies, enhancing e-government transactions, and moving to the concept of smart government in order to boost work efficiency and forge ahead with digitizing services in vital government sectors, including the education sector to which the TU belongs.

For his part, the Dean of e-learning and Information Technology at Taif University Dr. Fawwaz Al-Asiri said that the projects completed include a set of electronic systems and applications that contribute to the development of the educational environment and services provided to TU students and employees in both male and female sections of the campus, noting that these projects are an extension of the Digital Transformation Project whose first phase was completed by the University during the last year 2018. Dr. Al-Asiri explained that “My University,” an application for smartphones, is the most prominent of the new projects, which allows students to perform a range of electronic services such as checking their study plan fully, adding courses, deferral of studies for one semester, checking absences, changing their fields of specialization, among others. The Dean of e-Learning and Information Technology highlighted the importance of launching the Electronic Testing System as an integrated system to measure and evaluate students' level in a way that achieves credibility, transparency, quality, fairness, and equality in the measurement and evaluation process.

Dr. Al-Asiri announced the launch of the SSO project, noting that this platform is geared towards interlinking all TU systems with one entry platform without making radical changes to the existing systems. Dr. Al-Asiri pointed out the completion of the scholarships platform, which aims to provide a software environment that helps employees in the Scholarships Department manage university scholarships such as adding new scholarship, ending another, or searching for an existing file, etc. The platform also enables the Scholarships Department staff to add decisions or search for existing ones and to present reports containing vital data and statistics such as the country and university in which the scholarship grantee is studying, etc. He added that the Deanship of e-learning and Information Technology launched the Training Management System for the Deanship of Community Service and Sustainable Development, which will make it easy for students to sign up for training courses organized by the Deanship, clock in and out, print out their diplomas and academic records—all electronically.

He also said that the building and hall monitoring system project has been completed to monitor which rooms require maintenance, receive requests from technicians, book out rooms—all via the QR code. Dr. Al-Asiri explained that the aim of the job performance system is to evaluate the performance of TU employees based on the objectives and competencies of the employee subject to the civil service system. He also pointed out that the central entrance system using identification cards means controlling access to some laboratories and TU halls in both parts of campus via smart cards.

The Dean of e-Learning and Information Technology noted the launch of the electronic gate of the Arabic Poetry Academy and Registration in the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Award for Arabic Poetry, which includes the content management system, news, and applicant nominations. Dr. Al-Asiri explained that the system also helps in following up and managing the nomination forms electronically and processing them according to their status (provisionally approved - attachments not complete - approved - requirements not met - finally approved - not approved). The gate also has an electronic page management system and another electronic news management system.
